Awadhiya (also referred to as Awadhiya Kurmi, Ayodhya Kurmi and Awadha Vansi) is an endogomous subcaste of the Kurmi[1] who believe themselves to be descendants of the mythological Suryavanshi (Solar) dynasty. The term "Awadhiya" means people of Awadh or Ayodhya and they claim their origins to be in Ayodhya, which was the ancient capital of that dynasty.

History

Some were zamindars[2] while others were merchants and traders.[2]
