Avery is a given name, which was originally an English surname, that was itself derived from an Old French version of the name Alfred or the Ancient Germanic name Alberich. The meaning of the name is derived from the Old English words aelf, meaning elf, and raed, meaning counsel.[1]

The name entered top 20 most common name for girls born in the United States in 2011, peaking at number 12 in 2013.
