The Australian buffalo also known as the Australian swamp buffalo is a feral breed of water buffalo found in the Northern Territory.


History

This feral breed is a descendant of water buffaloes brought to the Northern Territory from Timor, Kisar and other islands of Indonesia between 1824 and 1849.

Industry

Today the Australian buffalo is kept on farms in both New South Wales and the Northern Territory itself, some water buffaloes are exported to Indonesia and Vietnam as livestock for meat.[1]
