Austin Macauley Publishers Limited is a British publishing company, based in Canary Wharf, London. The company was founded in 2006 and publishes a variety of fictional and non-fictional works.

The publishing house has an open submissions policy, meaning it accepts manuscripts from both experienced authors and new authors. It operates an unusual 'hybrid' publishing model,[1][2] meaning it offers some 'traditional' contracts to prospective authors, but also so-called 'contributory' contracts, in which authors must 'contribute' to the cost of publication. It claims this is a 'halfway point' between traditional publishing and self-publishing.

Early in 2017, Austin Macauley Publishers opened an office in New York.[3] It also created a separate US website.[4] It has plans to open an office in Australia by the end of 2018.

Austin Macauley Publishers is associated with both the Independent Book Publishers Association and Independent Publishers Group.

Controversy

Austin Macauley appears on the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America 'Thumbs Down' Publishers List, which, according to the association, contains the companies ''about which [they] have received the largest number of complaints over the years, or which [they] consider to pose the most significant hazard for writers".[10]

Austin Macauley shares staff in common with Ashwell Publishers, now known as Olympia Publishers, which is known as a 'pay-to-play' publisher[11] (that is to say, a company that will let the author pay for some or all of the costs associated with publishing the book, rather than taking on these financial risks itself, as a traditional publishing house would[12]).
