Aung Thu (Burmese: အောင်သူ; born 22 May 1996 born in Pyinmana) is a footballer from Myanmar, and a second striker for the Police Tero in the Thai League 1 and the Myanmar national team. He has represented Myanmar at Under-17, Under-20, Under-23, and full international level. Aung Thu represented Myanmar at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2015, he scored first goal against New Zealand.[1]

Club career

Early career

In 2009, at the age of 13, Aung Thu surprisingly represented Pyinmana town in U-19 Division Tournament scoring 3 goals. Later he was selected to attend the Myanmar Football Academy (Mandalay).

Yadanarbon

Yadanarbon signed Aung Thu from Myanmar Football Acedamy (mandalay). He showed his impressive talent in Yadanarbon FC as he played an important role of Yadanarbon. Despite scoring less goals as expected, he created numerous chances for his team mates to score, which proved him as a talented footballer.

In 2016 and 2017 MNL Awards Night, he won the MNL Best Player of the Year.

Police Tero (loan)

In November 2017, Aung Thu signed for Thailand club Police Tero formally known as BEC Tero Sasana for the 2018 season on loan. He again proved to be a extra-ordinary player by scoring numerous goals and creating chances, winning the league player of the month. [2] His goal during the Thai League Week 11 against Sukhothai FC is considered one of the top 5 goals of the round.[3]

International career

Youth

Aung Thu first appeared in national under 16 team that took part in 2011 AFF U-16 Youth Championship.

In 2014, he scored a crucial deciding goal against U-19 Vietnam at the match of Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy tournament in Brunei and Myanmar was crowned champion for the first time. He immediately became a Myanmar Fans' favourite striker. His performance helped the U-19 Myanmar National Team advance to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time in Myanmar football history. This was the first time that a Myanmar football team taking part in a world level tournament after Myanmar had qualified for the football tournament in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.[1] He was noted for his powerful shots and intelligent runs in FIFA techanical study book of 2015 U-20 World Cup.[4]

Senior

He made his debut on 28 August 2015 against United Arab Emirates in a friendly match. He scored his first international goal for Myanmar National team against Laos 3–1 in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.
