Astrid Stavro

Astrid Stavro (born 1972) is an Italian graphic designer based in Barcelona. Born in Trieste[1], she grew up in the city of Madrid, Spain, where she spent a lot of time in a pressing plant where her father worked. Stavro studied philosophy and literature at Boston University. She studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and the Royal College of Art, London.[2] Her Art of the Grid project, developed with Birgit Pfisterer at the Royal College of Art, has gathered international recognition and numerous awards. In 2005 she co- founded Studio Astrid Stavro, with Pablo Martín, specialising in typography and editorial design. Her approach to book design is based on strong attention to conceptual and tactile details. She is co-founder and creative director of Atlas, a branding and design consultancy, as well as the Infolio publishing house. She has been a jury member for the design competitions Laus and D&AD. She is a contributing editor of Elephant magazine, and writes for design journals including Elephant, Gra?k, Creative Review and Étapes. Astrid Stavro is a member of a group called International Society of Typographic Designers. In 2010 she was elected to be a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale.
