Asti City Walls

The city walls of Asti in Viale dei Partigiani

The biggest building project carried out in Asti in the medieval commune period was the construction of the city walls .[1] Starting from a few fortifications surviving from the Roman and Lombard periods, between the 12th and the 14th centuries the Commune constructed over 7 kilometres of city wall in two rings which completely enclosed the residential centre of the city.

Of these only the north-west section has been conserved. In other parts of Asti the walls have been incorporated into buildings and only small sections are distinguishable.
