History

ALPFA was founded in 1972, a group of Hispanic CPAs came together to tackle the lack of opportunities and visibility for Latinos in their industry by establishing the first national Hispanic professional organization, AAHCPA (American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants). In 2001, they expanded the reach of their mission to be more inclusive of the professionals that were joining and changed the name to ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting). ALPFA reached over 10,000 members by August 2009. In November 2009, ALPFA merged with the National Hispanic Business Association (NHBA) and created an organization of over 14,000.[2]
