A Kaji Nemu

Assam Lemon also known as Nemu Tenga (Assamese: নেমু টেঙা) refers to the lemons namely 'Gul Nemu' (Assamese: গোল নেমু /gʊl nɛmu/) and 'Kaji Nemu' (Assamese: কাজি নেমু /kazi nɛmu/) which are found and cultivated in the Indian state of Assam.[1] These lemons are an important part of Assamese cuisine.[2] The botanical name of Assam Lemon is Citrus limon.[3]

Assam lemon contains high level of Vitamin C and are used for preparing refreshing drinks and pickles as well as garnishing curry and other dishes.[4]

Gul Nemu

Gul Nemu is a lemon which is similar to the other lemons found in India. It is round in shape but is larger. The taste of the lemon is sweeter than other lemons and Kaji Nemu. When the lemon ripes, its colour changes to yellow and become more sweeter.

Kaji Nemu

Kaji Nemu is other variety of this lemon and is elongated and oblong compared to other lemons.[5] This lemon has higher juice content than Gul Nemu. It is a popular lemon in Assam and is associated with Assamese cuisine. This lemon is large as Gul Nemu and also turns yellow during ripening.[6][7]
