Asoke K. Talukder (pronounced Ashok)[1] is a Physicist by training, Computer Scientist by choice, and a Geneticist by passion. He contributed in the field of Omic sciences,[2] Data sciences, Knowledge discovery, Mobile computing, Information Technology, Telecom, Creative Arts, Research and Education. He is a think-tank, an author with wide breadth of knowledge. He worked in India, USA, UK, and Singapore in the domains of Innovation, and Research for companies like ICL, Fujitsu-ICIM, Microsoft, Oracle, Informix, Digital, Hewlett Packard, Sequoia, Northern Telecom, NEC, KredietBank, iGate, Cellnext, etc.

He internet-enabled Microsoft PowerPoint, engineered Oracle Parallel Server for Hewlett Packard HP-FX, Sequoia Fault Tolerant computer, and developed many technologies and products. He engineered the first commercial 64 bit relational database in the world (Informix) for DEC-Alpha.[3] He set up the first X.25 network in India for Department of Telecommunications (currently BSNL & MTNL), and the first Java Competency Centre in India.[4] He engineered the Network Management System for Queen’s Award winning PDMX.[5] He setup many IDC (India Development Centre)[6] and built many successful start-ups. He built wireless technology and content company Cellnext that defined the mobile Web and mobile content in India and world; also, helped Tyfone to build its mobile payment and SD-card based NFC Credit card products as a start-up. He is co-founder of InterpretOmics[7] a leading Systems Biology and Data Sciences company developing disruptive technologies in molecular biology. He was the DaimlerChrysler Chair Professor at IIIT-Bangalore[8] and Visiting Professor at VIT University, Vellore. He currently is Adjunct Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, NIT Warangal and Adjunct Faculty at Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior; Adjunct Faculty at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal.

Awards and honours

  • Recipient of “21st Century Award for Achievement”, 2007, Identity Management and Single Sign On product on Java card (SIM Card) –recipient of Simagine 2003 award, GSM World Congress, Cannes. This was the first time an Indian product received an award in GSM World Congress, Cannes
  • pBiz gateway, a middleware framework product to enables any legacy applications to be ubiquitous, mobile, and stateful/stateless – recipient of the “IBM Solutions Excellence Award”, San Francisco for 2001 in the eCommerce category
  • Recipient of “ICL Atlas Club” Award for Outstanding Performance, Mauritius, 1994
  • Recipient of “ICL Chief Executives Award of Excellence”, for Cobol Compiler and ODE products, Monte Carlo, 1986
  • Recipient of “ICL Services Trophy” in 1985[9]
  • Recipient of “ICIM Professional Excellence Award” in 1985[10]
  • Recipient of National Award for authoring the best story and screenplay in Bengali for All India Radio and Doordarshan (Indian National TV) in 1982,[11]
  • Recipient of Award for writing best Detective Story
  • Founded 'Amra Putul' a Puppet theatre in 1972 and established this as one of the most respected Puppet Theatre at Calcutta in 4 years
  • Presented a model of Apollo - Saturn V to the "People of America", (media coverage with picture in USIA World, the Bulletin of Department of Public Information, USA, July 1968)
