Asetek (Asetek A/S) is a Danish company (with operations in the United States, Denmark, China and Taiwan) that designs, develops and markets liquid cooling solution for computers across the world. The company has two segments, the desktop segment and the data center segment. The company was founded in 1997[2] and is based in Aalborg, Denmark. [8] The company is known for supplying desktop water coolers for companies like Corsair and NZXT. [9] They have been credited for "taking liquid cooling mainstream". [10][11]

History

In 1997 André Eriksen discovered by cooling CPUs to Subzero temperatures. After 1 year of existence Aseteks network of VapoChill re sellers grows to over 35 re sellers. In 2000 Asetek received an award from the Danish Ministry of Trade and Industry for being the most innovative company in Denmark in the year 2000. The company was also officially incorporated that year. In 2001 the company release the first 2GHz personal computer And starts a business partnership with Asus. In 2002 new generation VapoChill is released. In 2003, Asetek released the WaterChill brand of liquid coolers. In 2005, they released the first 12 volt pump system. [2]

Gen 1/2

In 2007, Asetek announced it first OEM design to be used by HPs Blackbird Gaming PC.[2] In 2008 Acer uses Asetek ti cool it new Predator Gaming PC's. In 2009, Dell makes liquid cooling a standard feature on it Alienware computers. [2]

Gen 3

The gen 3 pump was release in 2010. It offered a reduced size when compared to their gen 2 without scarification performance. The reduced high was created to allow for the cooling of GPUs such as the GTX 580 from PNY Technologies. These pumps are used by Corsair, PNY and Antec. They can be identified by the exposed motor portion on the cap. [12]

Gen 4

The gen 4 pump platform was released in 2012. It brought advances in the liquid flow and thermal performance compared to gen 3. The exposed section of the motor was removed from the top of the pump. It was the most used platform in the companies history, being used by Corsair, NZXT, Thermaltake, Dell, HP, Intel and other companies. [12]

Gen 5

The gen 5 pump was released in 2015. It was focused on reducing noise and increasing thermal performance. It achieved this through material and chamber optimizations. Gen 5 also brought a more efficient motor. The side inlets/outlets of the previous generations were replaced with a vertical inlet and outlet. [12]

Gen 6

The Corsair H115i liquid cooler uses the Asetek 6 gen pump

First revealed at Computex by Corsair in 2017 and released in 2018 by Corsair with the release of the H150i and the H115i.[13][14] As of yet no other companies have released any gen 6 Asetek pumps. Gen 6 pumps go back to the side-mounted inlet and outlet like gen 4 pumps. They also have a smaller cold-plate, the first change to the cold-plate in years. [14]

Products

Asetek manufacturers and designs many OEM liquid cooling pumps for computers, both for data centers and desktop computers. The water coolers are used to cool Central processing units (CPUs) and Graphics processing units (GPUs).

CPU coolers

  • 510LC: Mainstream liquid CPU cooler, competitive pricing, competes with mid-range air coolers. [15]
  • 545LC: 92mm sized designed for smaller cases and MicroATX. [15]
  • 550LC: Higher end with better performance then the 510LC. [15]
  • 570LC: Higher end with dual push-pull fan support. [15]
  • 570LX: Supports 2 120mm fans, extra thickness. [15]
  • 570XLF: Supports 2 120mm fans, standard thickness. [15]
  • 591LX: 27mm thin, fits 3 adjacend 120mm fans. [15]

GPU and mixed coolers

  • 550QC: Delivers the same cooling as the 550LC, but with easier expansion options to collect with the 740QC for GPU cooling. [16]
  • 740QC: Nvidia GPU with quick connect to use with 550LC. [16]
  • 740GN: GPU liquid cooler for Nvidia 600 and 700 series GPUs. [16]

Patents and lawsuits

The company is very well known for it's patents. It holds patents to many OEM liquid cooling solutions and many liquid cooling pumps. The company also holds the patent to having the pump inside the water block (the part that goes over the CPU or GPU). Many companies have also released models of liquid cooling AIO (all-in-ones) with this design. As such, Asetek has taken many companies to court on such charges. [17] Asetek has sued Cooler Master, Corsair Components and CoolIt over these charges. All three times the judge and jury were in their favour. [18][19][10][20]

Partners

Asetek has contracts with many companies to make water coolers. These include:
