Artsakh Football Club (Armenian: Արցախ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ), is an Armenian professional football club based in Yerevan. It was founded in June 2017 by Sevan Aslanyan, an Armenian businessman from the Czech Republic.[1] The club originates from Stepanakert; the capital of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh.
History
The club's inaugural match took place on July 2, 2017, against FC Banants at Banants Stadium. The friendly match ended with a goalless draw.[2]Tigran Yesayan was the first manager to coach the newly founded team and remained in his position until 29 January 2018.
Artsakh played its first competitive season in the 2017–18 Armenian First League.[3] and was promoted to the Armenian Premier League by obtaining second place.
Currently managed by Rafael Nazaryan, who replaced Sanamyan.[4]
Stadium and football school
At the beginning phase of the 2017–18 Armenian First League season, Artsakh used the Mika Stadium as their home ground until matchday 8, when they were forced to leave the ground due to the inappropriate pitch conditions. Between matchday 9 and 14 they played at the Pyunik Stadium before moving to the artificial-turf pitch of the Dzoraghbyur Training Centre at the eastern outskirts of Yerevan. The training sessions of the team are carried out at the Pyunik Training Centre, with some sessions being hosted by the Yerevan Football Academy as well as the Dzoraghbyur Training Centre.
The club's football school is based in the Stepanakert Republican Stadium, Stepanakert, Republic of Artsakh.
