    Artemis is a character in DC Comics. She is based on the Greek goddess of the same name. Artemis first appeared in Wonder Woman #4.

    Fictional character biography

    Artemis is the Goddess of Wild Animals, the Hunt, and the Moon as well as the twin sister of Apollo. She had a hand in helping her fellow Gods into bringing Queen Hippolyta's sculpture of a little girl to life which played into the origin of Wonder Woman. Queen Hippolyta named her daughter after Artemis' alias. It was also mentioned that Artemis gave her keen eyes like a hunter.[1]

    On Earth-Two, Artemis uses the alias of Diana where she has a headquarters on the Moon where she is served by the Moon Nymphs.[2]

    In September 2011, The New 52 rebooted DC's continuity. In this new timeline, Artemis is depicted as having a humanoid deer form made of moonlight. She appears before Demeter in Coloma, Michigan who informs her that the Throne of Olympus must be filled during the absence of Zeus. In addition, Artemis tells Demeter a prophecy from Apollo stating that the Olympians will be beaten by their own blood which Demeter considers an inevitability. Upon causing an eclipse, Apollo and Artemis ride around town in a motorcycle threatening anyone with death if they prevent them from capturing Zola. When they confront Wonder Woman, Artemis and Apollo state that she should give up aside from the fact that she made fools of their aunts and uncles. Wonder Woman would not go with Apollo's suggestion. Hermes assists Wonder Woman into fighting Apollo and Artemis because he claims that they will murder Wonder Woman and her companions for the throne. Both of them managed to make off with Zola.[3]

    Powers and abilities

    Like her fellow gods, Artemis possesses shapeshifting and immortality. She also can speak to animals.

    In other media

    • Artemis apepars in the films set in the DC Extended Universe.
      • Artemis appears in the film Wonder Woman. On Queen Hippolyta's story about Ares which she reads to Diana, Artemis was among the Olympian gods that were killed by Ares.
      • Artemis appears in the film Justice League, portrayed by Aurore Lauzeral.[4] She alongside Zeus and Ares assisted mankind, the Amazons, the Atlanteans, and the Green Lantern Corps into fighting the forces of Steppenwolf.
