Armin Hodžić (Bosnian pronunciation: [ǎrmin xôdʒitɕ]; born 17 November 1994) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Nemzeti Bajnokság I club MOL Vidi and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Hodžić began his professional career at Željezničar, where he was loaned from Liverpool's youth academy. In 2014, he signed with Dinamo Zagreb. Four years later, he joined MOL Vidi.
A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hodžić made his senior international debut in 2016.
Club career
Liverpool
Hodžić is a product of Željezničar's youth academy,[2] from which he was signed by Liverpool in May 2011 for a reported transfer fee of €150,000.[3] Injury meant Hodžić had to wait until 19 July 2012 to make his Liverpool Reserves debut against the USA under-20. Hodžić netted a goal in the match which his side won by 4–2.[4]
In the summer of 2012, Hodžić returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina and signed a season-long loan with his former club Željezničar.[5] His loan was extended for additional season the following year.[6]
Dinamo Zagreb
In May 2014, after his deal with Liverpool had expired, Hodžić signed for Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb on a five-year contract.[7] At the beginning of his career with Dinamo Zagreb, he was once again injured and had to wait eight months, until February 2015, for his debut in a cup game against Istra 1961.[8] He scored his first goal for the team also against Istra 1961, corresponding to second leg of the cup tie.[9] In his first season with the club, he won the domestic double.[10]
Hodžić started his second season with the club by scoring a bicycle kick goal against Inter Zaprešić. In that game he also scored his first hat-trick for the Zagreb-based club.[11] On 4 November 2015, Hodžić scored his first goal in UEFA Champions League away at Olympiacos.[12] He finished season as Dinamo's top scorer, and third best in the league.[13]
In March 2017, Dinamo and Hodžić agreed terms on a new contract, expiring June 2022.[14] He was once again Dinamo's top scorer of the season, and third overall in the league.[15]
On 24 July, Hodžić scored his 50th goal for the club in a 5–0 win over Hapoel Be'er Sheva.[16]
MOL Vidi
On 27 August 2018, Hodžić was transferred to Hungarian club MOL Vidi for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around €2.4 million.[17] He made his competitive debut for the team in a UEFA Europa League game against Bate Borisov on 20 September.[18]
International career
Hodžić came through all of Bosnia and Herzegovina's youth selections. He was also the captain of the under-21 side.[19]
In October 2015 he got his first senior call-up, for UEFA Euro 2016 qualification games against Wales and Cyprus.[20] Hodžić debuted on 29 May 2016 in a 1–3 friendly loss to Spain.[21]
