Arbutus Records is a Montreal based record label and management company founded by Sebastian Cowan in 2009.[1]
History
A community of musicians came together in the 4600 square foot Mile End loft space called Lab Synthèse, set up by Alex "Agor" Kerby and his brother.[2] The neighbourhood was chosen for its affordable rents.[3] Arbutus Records was created in order to promote and cultivate the bands associated with the space.[4] The label operates as a DIY ethic community of multimedia artists and musicians, who work collaboratively to develop and release music which combines punk ethos and pop music.[5][6]
Arbutus is run primarily by Bronwyn Ford, Taylor Smith, Mason Windels and Sebastian Cowan.[7][8][9]
