Aravinda Chakravarti (born 6 February 1954, Calcutta) is a human geneticist, an expert in computational biology and the 2008 President of the American Society of Human Genetics.[3][4]
Dr. Chakravarti's research work has involved the elucidation of the genetics and molecular basis of human disease, primarily complex diseases, and includes both experimental and quantitative (statistical and computational) approaches. This work has, over the past 20 years, focused also on the development and application of numerous genetic and genome–wide tools to questions of human disease etiology.
Dr. Chakravarti served since 2000 as director of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, and since 2007 as director of the Center for Complex Disease Genomics. He became director of the Center For Human Genetics & Genomics at New York University on 2 April 2nd, 2018.
