Aomawa L. Shields is an Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at UC Irvine. She was previously an NSF astronomy and astrophysics postdoctoral fellow and a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.[1] She received her PhD in Astronomy and Astrobiology in 2014 from the University of Washington, and conducts research in the emerging field of exoplanet climates and habitability. She is one of only two astrophysicists to be recognized as a 2015 TED Fellow.[2][3]

She attended Phillips Exeter Academy.
