Anuranga Walpola is a current Sri Lankan rugby player. His current position is Hooker (No-02). He is the Assistant coach of Isipathana College. He plays professionally for Havelock Sports Club in Colombo, Sri lanka. He is known to have a shrewd rugby brain and is considered as one of the finest players of his generation.

Early life

He was a prominent schoolboy rugby player for Isipathana College. He captained the senior college team winning all three major school titles in Sri Lanka under his leadership in 2002. He graduated to club rugby straight after leaving school being selected to play for the top rugby team in Colombo CR&FC.

In his early school days he started off as a back. He played as a Fly Half at one point. Later on he played at various positions. Flanker and Third row was his favorite positions. During his club career he started playing as a Hooker and currently established himself to be one of Sri Lanka's top No-02 players.

In 2006 he moved to Sri Lanka's most successful rugby club Kandy Sports Club.[1]

Coaching

Walpola is the current assistant coach of Isipathana College.[2] He also did a stint as assistant coach of the Sri Lanka U-20 team in 2014.[3]
