Anne Chu (1959, New York - July 25, 2016, New York[2]) graduated from Philadelphia College of Art in 1982 and received her MFA from Columbia University in 1985.[3] Anne Chu created watercolor paintings, and sculptures made from a variety of materials, most notably: chainsaw-carved wood, embroidered textiles, and large ceramics. She was the recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, The Penny McCall Award, Anonymous Was A Woman Award,[4] Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, and winner of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Competition.
Exhibitions
Chu's work was shown internationally in many exhibitions including solo museum shows at Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany,[5] Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami,[6] Weatherspoon Art Museum,[7] Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.[8] Other museum exhibitions include Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia [9] in 2010, The Brooklyn Museum of Art[10] in 2011 and participation in the 54th Carnegie International[11] at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. She was represented by 303 Gallery, NYC, Victoria Miro, London, and Donald Young, Chicago.
