Annaly

Annaly (Irish Angaile) was a medieval lordship in central Ireland.

Its territory roughly coincided with modern County Longford. It was associated with the O'Farrell clan who were the lords of the locale for almost seven centuries. The history of the Lords of Annaly and Farrell ancient line is mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters. The original Fearghal or Fergal ('man of valour') from whom the family claim descent was killed at Clontarf in 1014. His great grandfather Angall gave his name to the territory they possessed, Annally in Co. Longford. [1]
