The Annals of the American Thoracic Society is an official medical journal of the American Thoracic Society. It covers research in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. It is one of three journals published by the American Thoracic Society, along with the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology.

Contents

The journal publishes scientific articles on adult and pediatric pulmonary, respiratory, sleep medicine, and adult medical critical care. With a focus on clinical practice, the journal features original research articles, brief communications, focused reviews, perspectives, opinions and ideas. Proceedings, NIH Workshop reports, and executive summaries of major scientific conferences are published as supplements.[1]

History

The journal was established in 2004 as the Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society, obtaining its current name in 2013. The editor-in-chief was Alan R. Leff (University of Chicago Medical Center). He was succeeded in 2012 by John Hansen-Flaschen (University of Pennsylvania). David Lederer (Columbia University Medical Center) became the third editor-in-chief on April 1, 2017. The journal is published online and in print.
