Annabel Abbs (born 20 October 1964) is an English writer and author. Her first novel, The Joyce Girl, won the Impress Prize for New Writers in 2015. She was also awarded the Spotlight First Novel Award in 2015 for the same title.

Early life and education

The daughter of the poet, Peter Abbs, and the gardening writer, Barbara Abbs, she now lives in London and East Sussex.[1] Abbs was born in Bristol and grew up in Bristol, Dorset, Wales, and Lewes[2] in East Sussex.[3] She studied English Literature at the University of East Anglia, and Marketing and statistics at Kingston University.[3]

Career

Her first novel, The Joyce Girl, was published in 2016 and tells the fictionalised story of Lucia Joyce, daughter of James Joyce.[4][5][6][7] It won the Impress Prize for New Writers,[1][8][3] the Spotlight First Novel Award,[3] was longlisted for the Bath Novel Award[1] and the Waverton Good Read Award.[8][3] The Joyce Girl was published in the UK, Ireland, Australia,[9][10] New Zealand,[11] Germany, Turkey,[12] Spain, South America, Bulgaria and Russia. .' She has written for many newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Irish Times, The Weekend Australian Review, Psychologies and Elle Magazine and spoken at several literary festival Published works
