Anna Valentina Murch

Anna Valentina Murch (1948–2014) was a Scottish artist who studied at the Royal College of Art. Based in San Francisco, she was known for her award-winning public art installations.[1]

Early life and career

Born in Scotland in 1948 to Lt. Cdr. Norman Robins Murch, RN, and Valentina Gardikova.

Graduating with an art degree from the University of Leicester, she gained two postgraduate degrees at the Royal College of Art, and the Architectural Association in London.

In 1976 she moved to San Francisco and had a live-work studio at Project Artaud. She began teaching at the San Francisco Art Institute and later at UC Berkeley and was Danforth Chair at Mills College.

She was part of a team that was commissioned to help with the design of the St. Louis Metro. The deisgn recycled 160,000 pounds of colored glass to "create a shifting, ephemeral light show".[2]
