Anna Hakobyan

Anna Hakobyan (born February 1, 1978), is the wife of the current Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan^[1]. She is the editor-in-chief of the “Armenian Times” Newspaper.^[2]

She is also unofficially called the First Lady of Armenia.^{[3] [4]}

Education and Career

Anna Hakobyan graduated from the Yerevan State University.^[5] Since then she worked as a journalist. At the present, she is the editor-in-chief of the largest newspaper in Armenia “Armenian Times”. ^[3]

Civil rights movement

Hakobyan played an active role in the movement “My step” and “Armenian Velvet Revolution” in 2018, which were a series of anti-government peaceful mass protests in response to the past president’s third consecutive term.^[6] On May 8, 2018 Nikol Pashinyan was elected Prime Minister. ^[7]

Charity Work

Just after the election, Ms Hakobyan initiated a meeting with the charitable organisations involved in pediatric cancer and specialists. During the meeting session under her leadership, a working group to improve the state of pediatric cancer in Armenia was formed. Currently, with the involvement of the main stakeholders, a charitable foundation is in the formation process to support the development of pediatric oncology and hematology in Armenia, and Ms Hakobyan is the Honorary President of the Foundation.^[8]
