Andrew R. Jassy (born 1967/68) is an American businessman, and the CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing business.

Early life

Andrew R. Jassy is the son of Margery and Everett L. Jassy of Scarsdale, New York.[2] His father is a senior partner in the corporate law firm Dewey Ballantine in New York, and chairman of the firm's management committee.[2] Jassy grew up in Scarsdale, in the suburbs of New York.[3] He was educated at Scarsdale High School, and graduated in 1986.[4]

He earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard College, where he was advertising manager of The Harvard Crimson,[5][6] followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School.[7][8][9]

Career

In 1997, Jassy joined Amazon three years after its foundation.[7] In 2003, Jassy founded AWS, with a team of 57 people.[3]

In April 2016, Jassy was promoted from senior vice president to CEO of AWS.[10][9]

In 2016, Jassy earned $36.6 million.[11]

Jassy has been outspoken in his criticism of rival company Oracle.[12]

Other interests

Jassy is the chairman of Rainier Prep.[13]

Personal life

In 1997, Jassy married Elana Rochelle Caplan, a daughter of Louise B. Caplan of Los Angeles and George T. Caplan of Beverly Hills, California, in Santa Monica, with the bride's cousin Rabbi James Brandt officiating at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.[2]
