Susman serves as Vice President [7] in charge of New York. Susman spearheaded an advertising transparency campaign where Empower served as the gold standard in media agency transparency, culminating in the selection of Empower as Agency of the Year for 2016.[8] Susman serves as co-chair of the Advertising Transparency & Trust Forum, a multi-lateral industry working group formed in a meeting at the United Nations on March 30, 2017, to restore transparency and trust in the industry.[9]

Personal life

Susman was born into the Susman family of St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Frank Susman (Susman, Schermer, Rimmel & Shifrin).[10] Mr. Susman is the only attorney in history to have argued two separate cases before the United States Supreme Court on the same day.[11][12] Susman was known for supporting country over party. In one example, in March 1976, Susman argued against John Danforth, the Republican Attorney General of Missouri, in the U.S. Supreme Court. Then, six months later, in October 1976, back in Missouri, Susman joined with August Busch III to form "Democrats for Danforth." Prior to 1976, Missouri had been a state with both U.S. Senators and Governors regularly being Democrats. On November 2, 1976, Mr. Danforth was elected and served for three terms as Republican Senator for Missouri, prior to his service as Ambassador to the United Nations.[13]

Mr. Susman's mother, Marilyn Susman is a Professor Emerita of Psychology at Loyola University[14] and Fulbright Scholar of the United States Department of State. Ms. Susman studied under Abraham Maslow.

Mr. Susman's grandfather, Earl Susman served and was of counsel on Shelley vs. Kraemer,[15] a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which made housing discrimination illegal. He served as President of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.[16]

In addition to the United States Supreme Court, the family has also served in two Anglo-American courts. Notable family members include Louis Susman, the former Ambassador to the Court of St. James (United Kingdom), nominated by Barack Obama, and Karen Hantze Susman, winner of the 1962 women's singles title on Centre Court at the Wimbledon Championship.

Susman served on the Board of Partnership with Children. He served on the Board of Business for Diplomatic Action.[17] He served as Chairman of the Internet Content Syndication Council. Susman studied under J.L. Ackrill, an English philosopher and classicist who specialized in Ancient Greek philosophy, especially Plato and Aristotle. Ackrill has been said to be one of the most important scholars of Greek philosophy in the English-speaking world[18]. Susman also studied under Peter Birks, a Fellow of All Souls College Oxford, and honorary Queen's Counsel who is credited as having sparked academic enthusiasm for the English law of Restitution, and is considered to have been one of the greatest English legal scholars of the 20th century[19]. Susman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ethics and Political Philosophy at Brown University. Susman earned a Diploma of Business Studies at the London School of Economics, where he was renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of 1980s era rap music.
