Sir Andrew Charles Parmley (born October 1956) is principal of the Harrodian School in Barnes, and was the Lord Mayor of London for 2016–17.[3][4][5][6]

Early life

Parmley was born in Manchester, the third of three sons. Having shown an early interest, he started playing the organ, passing the ARCO at 16 and the FRCO aged 18, then won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. He then studied for a Masters at Manchester University, then studied at Royal Holloway,[2] and Jesus College, Cambridge.[1]

Career

Parmley has been Director of Music at Forest School near Snaresbrook, then at South Hampstead High School, and the Grey Coat Hospital in Westminster. He is currently Principal of the Harrodian School.[1]

Livery companies and the City

He was first elected a Common Councilman for Vintry Ward in 1992 and became its Alderman in 2001.[1]

His Mother Company is The Musicians, of which he is a Past Master. He is also a Past Master of Parish Clerks',[1] The Worshipful Company of Glass-Sellers of London, and is the first from that livery to be elected as Lord Mayor.[7]

Personal life

Parmley is married to Wendy Parmley, who is currently Senior Warden of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.[8]

Honours

Parmley was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to Music, Education and Civic Engagement.[9]
