Andrew Julian Goldberg OBE (born 28 July 1970), aka Andy Goldberg is a British orthopaedic surgeon specialising in complex ankle disorders. He is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London and Stanmore[1] and also an academic at University College London.[2]

Goldberg runs a research programme exploring regenerative medicine treatments, including stem cells and cartilage transplantation,[3] the effects of stem cell therapy on achilles tendinopathy,[4] and a national clinical trial comparing ankle replacements against ankle fusion.[5] He is on the Data Monitoring Committee for the Achilles Tendon Rupture PATH2 clinical study.[6] Goldberg is the Chief Investigator on the TARVA trial comparing ankle replacement against ankle fusion.[7] He was also responsible for the creation of the National Joint Registry for Ankle Replacements.[8] He sits on the Outcomes Committee of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS)[9] and is leading on several national patient reported outcome measures’ projects including being the musculoskeletal lead of the Farr Institute of Health Informatics.[10]

His Doctorate of Medicine (MD) thesis was awarded in 2006 by the University of London entitled The Use of Human Autologous Chondrocytes and Mesenchymal Progenitor Cells in Cartilage Repair Techniques.[11]

He chairs the Medical Futures Innovation Awards,[12][13] and speaks nationally and internationally[14] on healthcare entrepreneurship & innovation, including the Royal Society in London.[15] He has authored several text books[16] and is editor for the Clinical Talk Series, distributed by World Scientific.[17] He was awarded an OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours for services to medicine.[18]
