Andreas Bouchalakis (Greek: Ανδρέας Μπουχαλάκης, born 5 April 1993) is a Greek footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Olympiacos.

Club career

Ergotelis

Bouchalakis started his football career attending the Ergotelis Football Academy, the youth system of his local Superleague club Ergotelis. His performances with the club's youth teams in the Greek Superleague Youth Leagues led the club's board of directors to promote him to the first team on 19 May 2011, when he signed his first professional contract with the club at the age of 18.[1] He eventually made his debut on 11 December 2011, in a game against Doxa Drama.[2]

During the summer of 2012, Bouchalakis earned the trust of manager Siniša Gogić and became a regular starter for the club during their short tenure in the Greek Football League. His good performances reportedly drew the attention of many clubs, both in Greece and abroad. Eventually, Greek giants Olympiacos acquired his rights from Ergotelis on 22 March 2013 for a reported €150K, following up on the acquisition of Bouchalakis' fellow Ergotelis teammate Manolis Tzanakakis.[3][4] As part of the deal, both players were allowed to finish the season with Ergotelis, who also acquired the right re-sign both players on loan in the following season. Bouchalakis was instrumental in helping the club return to the Superleague at the end of the 2012–13 season, summing up 40 caps in both the Football League and Greek Cup competitions and managing to score 6 goals while dishing out two assists.

After Bouchalakis' and Tzanakakis' transfers were announced by Olympiacos, the club's board of directors decided to green-light the loan deal with Ergotelis, who added both players to their roster for the 2013–14 Superleague season in order for them to receive substantial playing time in top-flight in a familiar environment.[5] Bouchalakis contributed to Ergotelis' all-time best (at the time) 7th place finish with 30 caps and 2 goals. He returned to Olympiacos in the summer of 2014 to earn a spot in the champions' roster for next season.

Olympiacos

On 4 August 2014, Bouchalakis scored a suburb goal in the imperious 3–0 win against Milan in International Champions Cup held in USA. The young ace footballer added the final touch in the 78th minute, making the score 3–0, with a superb long-range bullet from 35–40 metres that soared past Michael Agazzi.[6]

On the beginning of the 2015–16 season, Bouchalakis tried his best to convince his coach Marco Silva to stay in the club.[7] On 3 June 2016, besides his injury, Olympiakos officially announced the extension of international Greek midfielder contract with the club until the summer of 2020, with an annual fee of €200,000.[8] On 20 July 2017, Nottingham Forest gave trialist to Greek midfielder a run-out in their first pre-season friendly of the summer, against neighbours Notts County. The Olympiacos midfielder trained with the Reds for a few weeks with a view to completing a loan move.

Nottingham Forest

On 27 July 2017, Bouchalakis signed a three-year deal with Nottingham Forest, after the midfielder impressed during pre-season with the Championship side. No transfer fee was involved in the deal to move the player between two clubs owned by Evangelos Marinakis. Mark Warburton admits he was initially cautious about signing the player – but was quickly won over by Bouchalakis’ attitude on the training ground and his performances in pre-season friendly games against Notts County and Mansfield Town.[9]

On 12 August 2017, Bouchalakis marked his league debut with two strikes at Brentford as Forest got their first away win, with a 4–3 victory, in the Championship since November 2016.[10][11] On 2 July 2018, after a year with the club, Bouchalakis returned to his former club Olympiacos. He dropped down the pecking order when Aitor Karanka took charge, however, as the new boss overhauled his squad during the January transfer window; Bouchalakis featuring just three times for the Spaniard. And with Karanka planning to make big changes again this summer, Bouchalakis will be one of several players moved on to make way for new arrivals. [12]

Second Spell at Olympiakos

On 20 June 2018, the 25-year-old midfielder joined his former club Olympiacos. There was no transfer fee involved in the deal to move the player between the two teams owned by Evangelos Marinakis. [13] On 23 August 2018, he helped Olympiacos defeat 10-man Burnley F.C. 3–1 in the of their UEFA Europa League playoffs first leg tie at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Athens to move one step closer to the group stage. The 25-year-old Greece midfielder he scored a header past Burnley goalie Tom Heaton three minutes into the second half, after Kostas Fortounis superb assist. It was his first goal in UEFA competitions.[14] [15]
