Amir Yaron (born 1964) is an American-Israeli economist. He was announced as governor-designate of the Central Bank of Israel by Benjamin Netanyahu on 9 October 2018.[1]

Early life

Amir Yaron was born in Israel in 1964. He grew up in Ramat Hasharon and Ramat Gan.

Education

Amir Yaron holds bachelor and master degrees from Tel Aviv University. He also holds master degree from University of Chicago, received in 1992. He received Ph.D from the University of Chicago in 1994.[2]

Academic career

Amir Yaron was assistant Professor of Economics and Finance in Carnegie Mellon University from 1994 till 1997. He is currently Robert Morris Professor of Banking and Professor of Finance in The Wharton School in University of Pennsylvania from July 2009.

Other activities

Amir Yaron is a member of the board of the Dovrat Economic Policy Center at the Herzliya Interdisciplinary Center. He is the president of Foundation for the Advancement of Research in Financial Economics from 2013. On October 9, 2018, Amir Yaron was chosen by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be the next governor of the Bank of Israel, subject to governmental approval. He will suceed Karnit Flug, whose five year tenure ends in November, 2018.
