Alonso is one of the largest craters in the southern hemisphere of Miranda, a moon of Uranus, located at 44° S, 352.6 ° E, and is in Dunsinane Region. It has a diameter of 15 kilometres (9.3 mi). The crater is named after Alonso, King of Naples, one of the characters in Shakespeare's The Tempest.[1] As with Miranda's Southern Hemisphere, the area was discovered by Voyager 2 in 1986 and later was officially named by the IAU in 1988.[1]
Just west is Inverness Corona which has a features of groove terrain which includes the "Chevron" portion. Verona Rupes is to the north and further south is Miranda's South Pole, the Prime Meridan is not far towards the east.
