Allergy UK

Allergy UK is a British medical charity dedicated to helping adults and children with their allergies. The charity was founded in 1991 as the British Allergy Foundation, and in 2002 the operational name of the charity became Allergy UK.[1]

The charity has a free helpline (01322 61989) as well as informative Factsheets on a range of different conditions including:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Asthma
  • Cow's Milk Allergy (CMA)
  • Eczema / Dermatitis
  • Urticaria (Hives)
  • Hay Fever
  • Food Allergy
  • Food Intolerances

Allergy UK also provides an free allergy alert service to tell people if foods have to be withdrawn or recalled that are a risk to consumers with a specific food allergy. This could be because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk, such as cross contamination.

Allergy UK also endorses certain products which have been independently scientifically tested and proven to reduce or remove allergens from the indoor environment and awards them a Seal of Approval. There is also an Allergy Friendly Product Award for products that are potentially of benefit to people affected by allergy, asthma, or sensitivity and are unlikely to cause a reaction.

National lobbying

Allergy UK is a founder member of the National Allergy Strategy Group,[2] a coalition of charities, professional organisations and industry, that seeks to improve health services for allergy sufferers in the UK.
