Ali Jehangir Siddiqui,علی جہانگیر صدیقی, is a Pakistani diplomat, businessman and entrepreneur. He currently holds the position of Pakistan Ambassador to the United States. He has previously served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan with the status of Minister of State.[1]
He has also served in various business advisory councils, public-private partnership think tanks and has been appointed by the Government of Pakistan to various economic and commercial entities.
On 8 March 2018, he was appointed by Prime Minister of Pakistan as Ambassador to the United States of America.[2]
On 15 August 2018, he was summoned by the National Accountability Bureau of Pakistan for inquiry into corruption charges.
Siddiqui[3] founded JS Bank, in 2006 by acquiring American Express Bank's[4] Pakistan operations and growing it to $4 billion in assets, 5000 employees and branches in 160 cities in Pakistan.
Ali J. Siddiqui has served as the chief investment officer and managing partner at JS Private Equity and JS Private Equity Fund.[5] He is the son of Jahangir Siddiqui, a Pakistani businessman and philanthropist.
Career background
Siddiqui[6] founded JS Bank, in 2006 by acquiring American Express Bank's[4] Pakistan operations. The Bank grew from 4 branches in 2006 to 323 branches at present. It also has an international branch in Bahrain. JS Bank Limited is a scheduled bank engaged in commercial banking and related services categorized into five business units, Retail Banking, Wealth Management, Corporate Banking, Investment Banking and Treasury.
Ali Siddiqui also established and served as Chairman of JS Private Equity Management (JSPE Management), one of the larger domestic private equity asset management firms.
During the period 2002-2003 he was an Executive Director of JS Investments, a mutual fund management firm regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.
Prior to moving to Pakistan in 2002, Siddiqui worked in Hong Kong as a Director with Crosby Capital[7] a private equity asset management firm that managed funds managed on private and governmental entities.[8]
Entrepreneurship
Ali has over the years partnered with other value investors to establish a range of different businesses including:
- Arabian Gulf Steel (a steel producer in the United Arab Emirates)
- Jura Energy (an upstream energy company in Pakistan)
- RAK Ghani Glass (the largest pharmaceutical glass producer in the Middle East)
Philanthropy
Until his appointment to the government in 2017, Siddiqui was honourary CEO of the Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation (MJSF) a non-profit organization working in the education, healthcare and social enterprise sectors.[9] As CEO of the Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation (MJSF), Ali Jehangir inaugurated the MJSF Art Gallery to promote Art and Culture within Pakistan.
MJSF directly provides emergency relief in humanitarian crises and implements projects in disaster zones in partnership with UN agencies.[10]

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation
Along with senior members of the government, Ali served as member of Pakistan's 2017 and 2018 delegations to the OIC[14]
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings
During his time as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Ali engaged with foreign government representatives at multiple forums.[15]
As part of his government service, Ali participated in United Nation’s General Assembly sessions on behalf of Pakistan alongside other ministerial representatives.[16]
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister
In August 2017, he was appointed as special assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi with the status of 'Minister of State'.[17]

Honoured as Young Global Leader
In 2014, he was honoured by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader.[18]
