Aleksei Mikhailovich Abaza was a Royal Dignitary of Russia and served as a Rear Admiral in 1903. He was one of the leading committee members which governed foreign affairs with an emphasis on Far Eastern issues.[2]

Abaza was part of the Bezobrazov group, along with his cousin Aleksandr Mikhailovich Bezobrazov,[3] Secretary of State, and Admiral Evegeni Alexseev, and their policies that contributed predominantly to the Russo-Japanese War,[4] after which the committee was abandoned and Abaza became a Royal Naval officer.
