Aldo Cavalli

Aldo Cavalli ( Maggianico di Lecco, 18 October 1946) is an Italian clergyman, archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church and an apostolic diplomat.[1] Since March 2015 he has been representative of the Roman Catholic Church to The Hague.[2] and he is also an Observer to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Early life

Cavalli was born in Maggianico di Lecco, 18 October 1946 and on 18 March 1971 was made a priest in Bergamo . He then taught literature for several years at a seminary while at the same time he studied political science and social sciences. In 1975 he began his studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, in diplomatic training. He studied canon law and theology and graduated in political science.

Cavalli then joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See, after which he successively worked in Burundi, Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, Chile, Colombia and Libya and Malta.

Aldo Cavalli was named titular archbishop of Vibo Valentia in 1996 by the Pope John Paul II.

On 21 March 2015 Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to the Netherlands[3] and in that capacity he succeeded Msgr. André Dupuy, who was retired.
