Albemarle Gallery

Albemarle Gallery is an art gallery located in Mayfair, London. The gallery opened in 1986 and features figurative to hyper-realist artwork by local and international contemporary painters and sculptors. The original gallery closed in 1993. The gallery was reopened under new ownership in 1996.[1][2][3] The gallery closed permanently in 2017.

History

In 1986, Mark Glazebrook a private art dealer with an interest in modern British painting and drawing opened the Albemarle Gallery on Piccadilly.[4] The gallery featured over 100 artists in its first three and a half years.[5] The gallery closed in 1993. Glazebrook died in 2009.[6]

In 1996, Tony Pontone, a London-based art dealer, reopened the gallery located at 49 Albemarle St, London W1.

Artists who have exhibited at the gallery include Pablo Atchugarry, Mersad Berber, Roberto Bernardi, Daniele Cestari, Girolamo Ciulla, Maxwell Doig, Miriam Escofet, JaeHyo Lee, Malcolm T. Liepke, Judy-Ann MacMillan, Kelvin Okafor, Christopher Pugliese, Raphaella Spence, Arshak Sarkissian, Sara Rossberg, and Luciano Ventrone.[7][8]
