al Shihuh

The Al Shihuh (Arabic: الشحوح, alShiḥuḥ) is an Arabian tribe originating mainly in Oman and some other live in the United Arab Emirates. In the singular, the name is Al Shehhi, a common family name in the UAE and Oman today. The tribe was very influential on both in Oman and UAE history, and played a major role in shaping it since sheikhs and sultans of the area long ago asked the help from the tribe on some tribal war issues during different times in the late history. Shehhi's are one of many tribes In both Oman and UAE that fought against the Portuguese invasion of the area and fought also against other invasions such as the British, Dutch, French and Persian Invasions during different periods of History.

The Shihuh people are known like any other Arabian tribes for their generosity, braveness and great manners. They mainly live in the mountains of Northern of Oman and that are surrounded by the coast. Thus, its members have been mainly fishermen and farmers.

The distinctive axe of the Shihuh people, known as the Jerz, is long handled with a small head.[1]

Al Shihuh dialect

The Shihuh tribe has a special dialect different from any other Arabic speaking tribes in the Arabian Peninsula. The dialect of the Shihuh are living example of the history of the Arabic language's evolution in the region. The Shihuh dialect has its own uniqueness because it preserved a lot of old Arabian words that were used long time ago around Arabia.
