Ajman International Airport (Arabic: مطار عجمان الدولي) is an upcoming international airport that will serve the emirate of Ajman, United Arab Emirates.

The project is a $571 million investment and is projected to handle 1 million passengers a year on completion.[1][2] Its expected completion date is 2018.[3]

History

The government of Ajman has granted Whitelake Consortium (WLC) the sole concession to build and operate the proposed Ajman International Airport. To enable this project to proceed, WLC has been provided with a site within the Al Manama enclave, 52 km east of Ajman City. The site is in a location in the heart of the Northern Emirates and connected by the existing road infrastructure to other emirates.

The facilities of this airport have been designed, with a 4000-metre-long runway, to accept aircraft like the Airbus A380. To expand airport usage facilities to serve the needs of the air cargo and logistics, maintenance and executive aircraft operations will be created.

With aviation in the Middle East growing rapidly, the planned operational date of Q1 2019. The airport's construction will encourage development on the adjacent land with plans for hotels, restaurants, commercial offices, residential units, retail, educational centers (medical and technical), exhibition halls.[4]
