Aisha Bowe is an aerospace engineer and CEO of STEMBoard, a technology company.

Education

Bowe completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees in aerospace engineering in 2009 at the University of Michigan.[1] She has said she chose aerospace engineering because of an interest in science fiction.[2] Her supervisor, Thomas Zurbuchen, was working on the Mercury Messenger.[3] She worked as an intern in the Ames Research Center in 2008, before joining as a Mission Engineer.[4]

Career

Bowe worked in the Ames Research Center, in the Flight Trajectory Dynamics & Controls Branch of the Aviation Systems Division.[5] In 2012 she received the National Society of Black Engineers award for Outstanding Technical Contribution for her paper "Evaluation of a Fuel Efficient Aircraft Maneuver for Conflict Resolution".[6] She joined the AST Flight & Fluid Mechanics group in 2009, assisting in the development and of algorithms in support of Air Traffic Management.[7] Bowe is from The Bahamas, and wants "to see more Bahamians in the science and technology field".[8][9]

Whilst at NASA, she served as liaison to the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program.[10] In this role, she mentored students, held interview workshops and led NASA site tours.[11] She was also part of the African-American advisory group.[3] She is a member of the NASDAQ Young Executive Advisory Board.[12]

STEMBoard

Aisha is co-founder and CEO of STEMBoard, a company that solves technology challenges for government and private-sector clients.[13] STEM Board is a Certified Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business supported by the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce.[14] They are working to close the educational achievement gap of minority ethnic groups, through STEM camps, partnerships with historically black colleges and universities and career opportunities for young people.[15][16] STEMBoard are currently incubated out of the Department of Defense, a deal worth $5 million.[3][17]
