Afanasyevsky District (Russian: Афана́сьевский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the thirty-nine in Kirov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the east of the oblast. The area of the district is 5,230 square kilometers (2,020 sq mi).[4] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Afanasyevo.[1] Population: 13,848 (2010 Census);[5] 16,961 (2002 Census);[8] 18,994 (1989 Census).[9] The population of Afanasyevo accounts for 24.8% of the district's total population.[5]
