Adventure Island is a 1947 American South Seas action/adventure film shot in Cinecolor and directed by Sam Newfield (using the pseudonym "Peter Stewart") for Paramount Pictures' Pine-Thomas Productions—one of the few times director Newfield worked for a major studio—and starring Rory Calhoun and Rhonda Fleming.

This film is a remake of the silent film Ebb Tide (1922) and the film Ebb Tide (1937), all based on the novel of the same name by Robert Louis Stevenson and his stepson Lloyd Osbourne.

Plot

Three sailors and a woman (Rhonda Fleming) roam an island ruled by a deadly tyrant.

Cast

Production

The film was made by Pine-Thomas Productions who specialised in lower budgeted action movies. However their budget for this was larger than they usually employed, ranging between $250,000-$300,000.[1]

Rory Calhoun and Rhoda Fleming were borrowed from David O. Selznick. Filming started in September 1946 in Catalina.[2] Ninety percent of the film was shot at Catalina, to reduce the need for studio space.[3]

The owner of the boat used in the film later sued the producers for damaging it.[4]

DVD release

Adventure Island was released on Region 0 DVD-R by Alpha Video on September 1, 2015.[5]
