Adama Iye Iyayi Lamikanra is the current acting Chief Judge of Rivers State. She was sworn into office on 15 January 2016 to replace Daisy W. Okocha who retired on the same day.[1]Hon. Justice I.A. Iyayi-Lamikanra was born on the 25th May 1956 at Ibadan, Oyo State. His Lordship had her Primary Education in Ibadan and Secondary Education in Lagos. His Lordship obtained her First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1966 and the West African School Certificate (WASSCE) in 1972. She attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and graduated in 1978 obtaining a Bachelor of Laws Degree(LL.B), she attended the Nigerian Law School between 1978 and 1979. She had her National Youth Service Corps assignment in Plateau State between 1979 and 1980.


His Lordship had a successful Legal Practise in Edo State where she worked as a State Counsel in the Ministry of Justice Benin City between 1980 – 1983 and a Legal Officer, Delta Steel Company Limited Ovwian - Aladja, 1983 – 1986 before she joined the Rivers State Judiciary as a Senior Magistrate Grade 1 in 1986, promoted to Chief Magistrate Grade II in 1988 and in 1991 was promoted to Chief Magistrate Grade I. She served in various Magisterial District namely; Port Harcourt, Elimgbu, Isiokpo Emohua and as Chief Magistrate Administration. In 1998, she was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Rivers State. On the 15th of January, 2016 she was sworn in as Acting Chief Judge of Rivers State.


Other positions of responsibility held by his Lordship are: Chairman, Elections Petition Tribunal, Nchia and Port Harcourt in 1991; and is currently the Chairman, Rivers State Judicial Commission. She attended several Conferences and Seminars some of which are; The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Conference , Conference on Multi-Door Court House, The 2009 All Nigeria Judges’ Conference, Abuja as well as various Women Judges Conferences, Entry Courses, Associate Membership of Chattered Institues of Arbirtators and The Commonwealth Lawyers Conference at Cape Town, South Africa, among others.


His Lordship is married to Oladejo Lamikanra, SAN, and is blessed with four children and grand-children. His Lordship’s Hobbies include Reading and Music.
