Adam Falk served as the 17th President of Williams College, Massachusetts, USA,[1] and Professor of Physics. He is currently President of the Sloan Foundation.[2]
Early life and education
Falk (born April 19, 1965) grew up on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where his father Werner chaired the Philosophy Department. Falk graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (1983), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1987), and holds a Ph.D in physics from Harvard University.
Academic career
Falk joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in 1994, after time as a post-doc. He became full professor in 2000. He later served as the James B. Knapp Dean at the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University from 2005. He joined Williams College in 2010. In June 2017, Falk announced his departure from Williams at the end of 2017; in 2018, he became the President of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.[3]
Personal life
He has several siblings including an older brother, Jim Falk, also a physicist and former university leader, in Melbourne, Australia.
Contributions
Falk is a high-energy physicist whose research focuses on elementary particle physics and quantum field theory, particularly the interactions and decay of heavy quarks. Some of his work is cited over 700 times - for example;
