The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research or AcSIR is an Indian institute of national importance, headquartered at the CSIR-HRDC Campus, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The institute was established for the purpose of granting doctoral and post-doctoral degrees.[2][2] The establishment of the AcSIR allows for a centralised institution to manage this research. Creation of the AcSIR was enabled by legislation of the Lok Sabha in 2010.[2] This same legislation labelled the Academy as an "Institute of National Importance".[2]
Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) was established in 2010 by a resolution of the Government of India on June 17, 2010[3] and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Act, 2011 notified on April 3, 2012, as an 'Institution of National Importance', with an aim of furtherance of advancement of learning and research in the field of Science & Technology and their interfaces in association with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India.[4]
It is a meta-university with study centres in 37 laboratories and 6 units of CSIR, spread across 23 cities of India.
Governance
Board of Governors (BoG) of AcSIR is the supreme Governing Body of the organization. Chairman BoG is also Chancellor of AcSIR. Director General is ex-officio Vice Chairman of AcSIR. In situation of vacancy of Chairman BooG, DG CSIR is ex-officio Chancellor Acting Chairman/Chancellor of AcSIR where as Director (equivalent to Vice Chancellor) of AcSIR is the Executive Head of the organization. Prof. R. A. Mashelkar was appointed as first Chairperson of Board of Governors (BoG) of AcSIR, making him first regular Chairman BoG/Chancellor after Prof. S. K. Brahmachari served as first Acting Chairperson of interim AcSIR. Professor Baldev Raj was the second regular Chairman (BoG) and Chancellor, AcSIR. Ex CSIR-CEERI Director Prof. Chandra Shekhar was appointed as the Chairman of AcSIR on October 10, 2018 by the President CSIR.
After having been successively served by a few faculty as Acting Director of AcSIR, Professor Rajender Singh Sangwan assumed the charge of the first regular Director of AcSIR on August 17, 2017.
Executive Head

Senate/Academic Council
Director, AcSIR is also Chairman of Senate (equivalent to Academic Council) of AcSIR. Prof. Rajender Singh Sangwan is the current Chairman of Senate, AcSIR.
SIRO recognition
Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, GoI has recognised AcSIR as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO).
About
Established in 2011 as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ (interim operations started in June, 2010), the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) will impart instruction and provide research opportunities in areas that are not routinely taught in academic universities in India.
The Academy has about 2000 full-time faculty members from CSIR Laboratories, over 3000 students enrolled in programmes and about 40 non-academic staff members.
