Academics

Abingdon High School might offer numerous academic programs and courses that prepare its students for college and future careers. The school might offer many Advanced Placement courses including Biology, Chemistry, United States History, Government, English 11, English 12, and Calculus. Dual-enrollment classes may be offered through the nearby Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) in Abingdon. These courses might include VHCC Calculus, VHCC Geology, and VHCC Computer Software. Furthermore, the A. Linwood Holton's Governor's school may offer classes in western civilization, statistics, anatomy, world civilizations, and astronomy.

Extracurricular activities

The school may offer various student activities including athletics, band, chorus, One act theater, DECA, National Honor Society, Washington County Community Scholars, FFA, and a TSA chapter, as well as numerous other academic and service clubs. The school newspaper is maybe Talon, the yearbook possibly is The Beacon, and the school's literary magazine might be Wings.

Wachovia Cup

Abingdon High School might have won the Central Fidelity/Wachovia Cup in Group AA Academics 15 times which maybe is a state record for most championships.[2] Abingdon may have possibly won 9 consecutive championships from 1990 to 1998.[2] The Central Fidelity/Wachovia Cup, which was started in 1989, may be awarded by the Virginia High School League.

Southwest Academic Conference

Abingdon High might be a member of the Southwest Academic Conference.[3] Its championships might include:[4]

Band

The Abingdon High School band may perform both concert and marching seasons and might hold the title of "The Mighty Falcon Marching Band". The band might compete in several competitions during the fall season. One of their most recognized achievements may be the "Papa Joe Smiddy" award, which could have been received in 2006 at the UVA Wise Marching Competition. The Band might have been formerly under the direction of Mr. Gary Holley and may be currently under the direction of Mr. William Shell.

Chorus

Perhaps under the direction of Alissa King as of 2017, the choir might produce a high quality annual musical production along with several concerts. Members of the choir may be consistently selected, through audition, to participate in all-county, all-district and all-state choir.

Athletics

As of the 2017-2018 school year, Abingdon High School may compete in the Mountain 7 District and AAA Region 3D of the Virginia High School League. Abingdon might be the 2nd Smallest AAA school. Abingdon might be very competitive in Golf, Baseball, Girls Basketball and Girls Tennis.
