Abdus Salam Talukder was a Bangladeshi politician, former secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the former State Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs and member of parliament.[1]

Early life

Abdus Salam Talukder was born on 4 November 1936 in Mulbari, Sarishabari Upazila, Jamalpur District. He graduated from Sharishabari High School. He did his undergraduate and graduate studies in political science from Dhaka University. He completed his law school in Lincoln's Inn,London and joined the Dhaka bar in 1970.[2]

Career

In 1976 he started in politics by joining the Democratic League. he was elected to the national parliament three times in 1979, 1991 and 1996. He was made state minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs in the cabinet of Ziaur Rahman in 1981. in 1981 he led the Bangladesh delegation to the conference of Afro-Asian Legal Consultative Committee. From 1991-1996 he was the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operative in the first Khaleda Zia administration.[2][3]

He was the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on local government, cooperative and planning ministry. He was a former secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. In 1066 he was made the president of the liaison committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.[2]

Death

He died on 20 August 1999.[2]
