Abbeville (Irish: Baile an Phíopaire)[1] is a townland in the Barony of Ormond Lower, County Tipperary, Ireland. It is located in the Civil parish of Lorrha.
Protected structures
Lackeen Castle, is a tower house built in the 12 th century as a Kennedy stronghold.[2] It is a national monument in state ownership[3]. It was here that the Lorrha Missal was found.[4][5][6]
There are four buildings within this townland that appear on North Tipperary County Council's Record of Protected Structures (ref S1-S4) [7] and on the National Inventory of Architectural heritage.[8] Somerset, a private house of architectural and artistic interest. Abbeville House, a private house of architectural, artistic and archaeological interest.[9] Lackeen House, of 17th and 18th century origin of architectural and archaeological interest situated close by the castle. Former RIC barracks turned pub located on the R438 road listed as being of social and architectural interest.
