Tun Abang Openg bin Abang Sapiee (7 October 1905 – 28 March 1969)[1] was the first Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak (Governor of Sarawak), upon the independence of Sarawak from Great Britain and formation of Malaysia in 1963. Before that, the position of Governor of Sarawak was held by a British officer appointed by Queen Elizabeth II and her precursor, King George VI.

Before being appointed as the first Governor, he was active in politics.

After his death on 28 March 1969, he was replaced by Tuanku Bujang Tuanku Othman.

His sons, Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari, now serves as the sixth Chief Minister of Sarawak since 13 January 2017, as the previous Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem died from a heart attack on 11 January 2017, and also a member of The Sarawak State Legislative for the Satok constituency, and Datuk Abang Karim is the chairman of Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI).
