Aasara pension is a pension scheme by the Government of Telangana. It is a welfare scheme of pensions to old people, widows, Goud community, elephantiasis patients, AIDS afflicted people, physically disabled and beedi workers.[1] By March 2018, the number of beneficiaries stood at 42 lakhs.[2]

History

The pension scheme was started in 08 November 2014 by Chief Minister of Telangana, Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao in Kothur in Mahboobnagar district.[3] The government is spending Rs 5,500 crore every year on the scheme.[4]

The scheme

The new Pension scheme called Aasara increasing the monthly pension from Rs.200 to Rs.1000 for old age persons, widows, weavers, toddy tappers and AIDS patients. The government also extended the financial assistance to Rs. 1000 per month to the poor Beedi worker under Aasara Scheme from the month of March 2015 onwards.

Disabled people

The pension was increased by Rs.500 to Rs.1500 for disabled persons.and also disabled percentage set to 70% minimum
