AANGILAM (ஆங்கிலம்) is a bilingual edublog that dedicated to help Tamil-medium English language learners, especially for those who want to learn English grammar through Tamil. Now it is one of the most popular sites among Tamils around the world. The blog also provides a free downloadable facility that enables the readers to download its lessons as PDF files.

History

The Aangilam blog was launched on November 29, 2007 as an educational blog,[3] and its first month traffic was only 212 views. However, in a short time fellow bloggers, websites, and forums spontaneously started to review or/and publish some positive introductory articles about it; as a result, the blog became popular in the Tamil blogosphere.[4][5][6][7][8][9] Since then traffic to Aangilam increased rapidly.[10] Initially, the blog only aimed to provide basic English grammar lessons, but it later focused on various different English language related topics, which are particularly created to suit to Tamil medium English learning environment. As of 2015, the blog had reached more than ten million views and its constant-growth is growing constantly.

Notability

Although thousands of visitors have been attracted by the blog's unique contents and the easiest method of explanations, and hundreds of websites have supportively linked to Aangilam,[11][12] some others have contrarily republished its entire or all most all contents on their own sites without asking permission or giving attribution to the original site.[13][14][15][16] A number of blogs, Facebook pages, and apps have created just for (copy and paste) republish its posts.[17][18][19][20][21][22]

Meaning of "Aangilam"

The site's name "aangilam" is a Tamil word which meaning in English language is "English". Semantically, it's a Tamil exonym-word for referring to English, so the name choice of the blog is well-suited because of the site's purpose is English teaching.

The blog's major visits arrive through direct visits, organic search results, and referring websites. Comparably, only minor visits gain from social media networking sites.
